Using Midi Synth Bass in Metal Music?

This is a quick video about using midi synth bass in metal / aggressive rock. Have you ever thought about using one in such a genre? I don’t mean in an effect-kind-of-way, but INSTEAD of real instrument bass? Well, I use it in one of my songs. I think it works just beautifully. Watch the video and take a listen.

What do you think? I think it’s pretty neat. You could also use a synth bass together with a real, played bass guitar. Just blend them together. I often use additional synth bass track in choruses to fill out the low end. However, as you can hear, it’s possible to make it work without the “real bass”.

The point of this video is to show you, that you don’t necessarily need a bass to create metal / rock or other hard hitting music at home. It’s just about creativity and experimenting with the tools that you’ve got in your disposal.

Try using synth bass both as an additional spice and as a main bass track. See how it works for your material. You could divide the bass in the treble and bass tracks, like I did in this video, or you could keep it as a one synth bass track. There are no excuses not to start making your music today. Don’t let the lack of instruments get in the way.

Hopefully you found this video helpful. If there’s anything you want me to cover in the future videos let me know. Send me an email or leave a comment below. Ask if there’s anything unclear or if I left something out. Until next week, cheers!
